"As soon as I was able to get my hands on the Tintype SnapPak, I knew I had a combo that I'd be using a lot. The beautiful 'tilt-shift' kind of effect that the Tinto 1884 uses is absolutely gorgeous in almost any kind of environment. It's combination with the D-type Plate film not only makes beautiful black and white portraits, it also produces vintage and nostalgic photographs. On a motorboat from my last trip to the historic Bohol province in the Philippines, I saw an opportunity to use this hipstamatic combo. As the boatman pushes our vessel out of the shallow waters away from the beach, I took a couple of snapshots and produced this photo that looked like it was taken a century ago!

"These photos were taken during a vacation in Salento, the southern part of the region of Apulia, in Italy. I chose Lucifer VI + BlacKeys B+W as the combo for its desaturated colors which emphasized the deep blue sky and the contrast of the land. In particular I was captivated by the remains of the ancient guard towers that dotted the coast and I couldn't help but take a shot of each one I found on my way."

"The giant rubber duck is an art installation that's been to many cities around the world and its currently residing in Hong Kong. I used this combo as the Americana lens gives a nice dream-like effect with the blurring of the edges which I thought really suited the surreal sight of a giant duck in the harbour! The Blanko Freedom 13 film gives the image a nice blue hue which makes the yellow stand out."

"I really like using the Silver Lake HipstaPak for when I'm out and about in old areas of Hong Kong, as the tones really lend themselves to shooting the old antiques and side streets you find as you wander around. The Dixie film gives a yellowish hue to your images and light areas can be quite blown out, making them look really old and like they've been left out in the sun for a long time. There's a minimal boarder, just a very thin feathery white edge which I really like as it doesn't distract from the image."

"I travel through my city (Sydney), perhaps a 1000km a week. Despite living here all my life there is always something new to discover or there is always something familiar to be discovered all over again with a new eye.
The multiple possibilities of the combinations of Hipstamatic are more often than not that very eye. Whether it is a tried and tested combo, a random selection or a lens and film suggested by others, I am happy to try it on and see what comes about.
This bridge is an icon in Sydney, photographed by the best. No wonder; it is strong and graphic. The cables cut the sky, like latitudes and longitudes on a map. Sometimes they dissect the clouds, sometimes a distant plane may traverse them like a spider closing in on it's pray.
The bridge runs from east to west and is a gateway to the city, if your lucky enough to cross in the early morning it will frame the dawn, and in the evening on your way back out, it will frame the dusk."

"A combination I choose often for architecture and landscape shots is the Pistil film together with the Bettie XL lens. It gives photographs a very nostalgic quality I find very interesting. Using these two, reminds me of shooting with analog cameras so old that each shot is never the same. The random light leaks, film dust and color aberration replicated by this set conveys a retro feel that is uniquely creative. Additionally, the black border completes that timeless characteristic."

"Clouds always attract me and I often go to the beach when I can to take in the whole scene at the ocean. This is one of a set where I concentrated on the point of view. I put my iPhone on the ground in order to make the girl look as if she was walking on water.
I love the combo of GSQUAD Lens and Rock BW-11 Film. The contrast is heavy which makes the clouds pop in this scene."

"My daughter teaches clinical skills to nurses in a very high tech health sciences center. We visited her on the job and toured the various classrooms and simulated hospital wards. It was after hours and the place was populated by a legion of specialized manikins. Under control of an instructor these almost-humans can breathe, blink, bleed, and vomit. Some have a heartbeat and pulses in their extremities.

Although my conscious mind knew that the manikins were just animated puppets, I kept sensing that they were something more. I was feeling very unsettled when we entered a classroom used for teaching anatomy. This skinless model was facing us as we entered, seeming like an alien welcoming us to its home planet. Its musculature was brightly colored for teaching purposes, making for a very striking picture."

"I live and work in communities that are evolving. There is constant change in the constructed environment. There seems to be a steady stream of new things, new signs, and new icons appearing in unexpected places. Each trip outside my door feels like a voyage of discovery. I use the Hipstamatic camera daily to record my response to the new.

My standard combination is the Helga Viking lens with DC film. I find this combination produces a fairly natural image, with no vignetting or fringing and only a mild color cast. I modify film choice based upon lighting conditions and subject matter. My favorite alternative films include Ina’s 1969, Cano Cafenol, Kodot XGrizzled and Claunch 72 Monochrome. I occasionally use Hornbecker, Melodie, Lucifer, and Chunky lenses."
