"This photo was taken in the seaport of Ilo (pronounced ee-low) - a small fishing town in the south of Peru. The sheer number of pelicans around was astonishing. They fearlessly walked amongst the fishermen and other workers. I was able to get within inches of a group of them for this shot.
On a somber note, many of these pelicans end up dying of hunger and contamination, both of which can be attributed to over-fishing and local mining. It's a real eye-opener seeing first-hand the detrimental effects our industries have on our environment."
