"I shot this San Francisco series quite a while back when I was still living in the Bay Area. All photographs were made with the John S lens and AO BW film. I stuck to this combination for months. I believe that finding the right combination and sticking to it, is what helped me focus on seeing the streets and taking the shot instead of thinking "Oh, what combination will this scene be good in?". With so many options, it is really tempting to go crazy on the experimenting with Hipstamatic. There is a time and place for that, with still life stuff and your cats at home. For me though, once I hit the streets, I left my settings alone. I felt that the John S vignette and contrast paired with the grittiness and texture of AO BW was the perfect look for the dirty harsh Tenderloin neighborhood in SF -  where most of these photos were taken."
