\"This photo was taken in western Washington\u2019s Skagit Valley at the height of the tulip season. There was an ominous thundercloud building overhead, but, the sun broke out for just a few minutes at this time. At first I thought the petals had fallen naturally as there had been hail the day before and heavy rain earlier in the day. But, as I was pretty much lying in the mud to take the pic, I could see the stems had been cut - I was very touched.\"<\/em>

\"This site is the Arpoador Rock in Ipanema in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It is the best spot in Rio de Janeiro from which to enjoy the sunset. Pedra do Arpoador Beach bears the same name and is a continuation of Ipanema beach in the south of the city. It's known as the surfers' beach, as it has many big waves, excellent for the Billabong Rio Pro surfing championship and other sporting events. In the past, this was a place to harpoon whales, hence the name.\"<\/em>

\"I love taking road trips a few times a year. Since I mainly take landscape pictures one of my favorite go to spots is the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. I find it very soothing hiking along the many nature trails or driving down long winding roads looking for the perfect place to pull over and capture an image with my camera. \"It takes me 1H30 by scooter to get there. I go there every 10 days... no matter what, I have to be there. What you can see is just a small part of a totally empty beach. It is so peaceful, so full of nature and wildlife... I don\u2019t know how long it will stay this way... I feel so lucky to be able to enjoy a place so pure and so untouched by civilization. \"The mangroves at Beachmere (Queensland, Australia) are a photographer\u2019s delight. I love driving there in the middle of the night to photograph the sunrise behind the trees \u2013 especially at high tide, when the conditions are just right for long-exposure photography. On this particular excursion, in October 2013, I got to the beach about an hour after high tide. I waded into the water, set up my tripod and took a series of long exposures with my DSLR. In between the long exposures, I snapped some Hipstamatic shots. This is the best of that lot, I think. Mother Nature presented me with the composition; the turquoise cast and blurry patches are courtesy of the Americana<\/strong> lens.\"<\/em>
