"Born out of haste; a desire to record a fleeting moment, I made my first street candid with Tinto 1884 and BlacKeys SuperGrain. Enamored with the small circle of clarity directing the viewer, I began to choose this combo more often for street scenes.
Initially, I believed this portfolio was simply about giving voice to those living on the edge of society, the invisible Americans. The homeless, the addicted, the veterans, the mentally and emotionally unstable; the people encountered everyday asking for help, or simply seeking relief in some quiet corner. I recognize now that these images are more than this; they are examples of how we choose to see, who we choose to see with clarity."

"Ma Wan is an abandoned fishing village in Hong Kong on the tiny island of Ma Wan (0.97 square kilometers). It is located between Lantau Island and Tsing Yi Island and the Tsing Ma suspension bridge passes overhead. One can still see the remnants of the old stilt houses (pang uk) along the shore. The residents of the village were evicted in 2011 and were re-housed in modern developments on another part of the island. When it was a functioning village, it was a tight community of fishermen and farmers, with its own schools, restaurants, village study rooms and a health centre. It is now quietly decaying, and it won't be long before the developers bulldoze it to make way for yet another new development. "

"For these photos, I chose to do street and documentary style photography. Street life, slum children, bird merchants, street musicians… to mention but a few. I use my iPhone 5 for mobile photography. Mobile photography is a very convenient way to capture the moment and the square form photographs provide me with a different view of the subject and it also offers me a different way of thinking about my photographic subject. And I love it."

"Earlier this year, I crossed the border into Mexico with the intention of doing some street photography. Acuña, the fastest growing city of Coahuila, is a bustling place full of people, out and about taking care of their daily business. They usually travel by foot or bicycle so the task has been rather easy.
Not too long ago, the streets of this city were not considered "safe", so as a precaution I never go about on my own and only shoot from a vehicle in motion while in the passenger seat, usually being driven around by either my brother or my cousin. Since I've been doing photography, I haven't yet seen anything chaotic in the streets. What I do see is hard working citizens trying to make it through the day, children playing out in the streets, a large stray dog population, and very young couples with several children. This is Acuña La Bella."

"I have been working as a photojournalist for the past 25 years at Agence France-Presse. I have covered major international events such as the Olympic Games and football world cups... At present, though, what I most enjoy photographing is the beautiful people crowd/celebrities, which I do when covering the various film festivals such as Cannes; such photos obviously require a more portrait-like approach. I love the photographic work of Richard Dumas, Lise Sarfati, Bettina Rheims, Dave Burnett, without forgetting Emanuele Scorcelletti.
Despite the advent of digital photography, for the past ten years I have continued to shoot analogue with my Rolleiflex 6x6 and my Holga. However, a year ago I discovered the new world of Hipstamatic and my life changed!!! What joy, what bliss!!! Everything is done to encourage creativity and this is just the beginning!!!!"

"There is nothing like Overbrook in California, where I live. Founded in 1896 and named for the small river nearby in Northern New Jersey, Overbrook was considered one of the more progressive psychiatric centers of its time until it closed completely in 2007 (though it had been half closed much longer than that). It’s a huge complex; practically a self-contained city complete with its own power station. I actually know someone who was a patient there once upon a time. Far from the horrific stories you hear about such places, it was actually a rather positive experience for them, and when I’ve explored the grounds I’ve never felt a sense of dread or negativity. It has always felt rather peaceful to me, actually. To me the real shame is that the state of New Jersey abandoned buildings like this and Greystone. Nothing is built like them anymore, and Overbrook would have made such a fantastic museum or university had the state not let them deteriorate beyond the point of no return."
