"I have used Hipstamatic now for over two years and use it so regularly, I often forget that it is an app! I love the diversity of Hipstamatic. As we live very close to a city and also right next to a six hundred and fifty acre park, I appreciate being able to change the filters, lenses and flashes depending on the light available, the feeling tone of the location and also, the feeling tone that is wanting to be created.
In the Pacific Northwest, this autumn, we have had unusually sunny weather (often with fog in the morning), which has provided some unique opportunities for photos. It is normally overcast and rainy, with the sun setting in the late afternoon, making it very challenging to take photos in such limited light. However, I have loved how the sunny days in the city have brought out the street performers and created such dramatic shadows.
I enjoy using Tinto lens to focus in on the subjects, Blackeys SuperGrain film for it's distinctive contrast, and Uchitel film for it's vintage quality. The foggy mornings have been extraordinary in the park - so many of the usual distractions (the nearby city's urban rumble, the distant landscape behind the foreground trees) have been masked by the fog giving the park quite a magical, dream-like feel. I like to use Robusta film for the texture and warm painterly and vintage feel it gives to the images, and in particular, to the whiteness of the fog."

"Travelling through Cuba was like stepping back in time... My wife and I travelled all over the Eastern part from Havana to Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Santa Clara, Cayo Santa Maria, and then all the way to Santiago de Cuba via Camaguey. We stayed mainly among the locals at their 'Casa Particulares', which are rooms or apartments you rent at a private family house. This way we could learn more about Cuba's history and future through the eyes of the local people.
Photographing with Hipstamatic, I was able to create perfect images that show the authentic island feeling. The people are very welcoming and it was pretty easy to photograph them. Most people wanted to pose and be in the picture. Others saw it as another way of gaining income... I, however, tried to make pictures that show real life and the warm Cuban atmosphere."

"The beachfront in Venice and Santa Monica is a muse like no other. Generous to a fault, it's gritty, quirky, funny, sad, inspiring, beautiful, creative, decaying, violent, and full of love. I ride my bike there 3 or 4 times a week, and I never run out of things to shoot. It's California's worst kept secret and I can't get enough!

"Chicago has been called an 'artful construct' - built on an onion infested swamp, burned to the ground and rebuilt according to the plan of the great architect Daniel Burnham. Likewise, my work - which reflects Chicago and its people - is an artful construct that combines street photography and fantasy. I look for compelling figures inhabiting timeless spaces - ranging from Chicago's museums to transportation hubs and government buildings - and let Hipstamatic create the mood and magic. My goal is for my images knit together into a story of Chicago, filled with drama and pathos.

I started using Hipstamatic in 2012 when I saw how it could transform my phone into a means of making art. I began with Hipstamatic classic but now use Oggl almost exclusively. Oggl has improved my knowledge of Hipstamatic products and my photography by letting me pick the right lens and film for the subject matter. The Oggl community is great fun too!"

"My interest in photography was reawakened when I discovered Hipstamatic. Over the last four years it is the app that I have used the most to capture moments around Hong Kong. The city has many aspects to it and one can wander though a kaleidoscope of imagery – from towering skyscrapers and crowds of people to old temples, marketplaces and quiet mountain walks. I can’t say that I have a favorite combo – in the early days I probably would have said that my favorite lens was John S and that my favorite films were Blanko and BlacKeys B+W or BlacKeys Supergrain. At one point, I did go through a phase of using the Foxy/Sugar combo all the time. But now, with Oggl, I use whatever combo I think works best for the image. I love the ability to edit after taking the shot and I am discovering many combos that I would never have used before. "

"According to an Indian belief, taking photographs of living things is stealing their souls. I prefer to believe all these moments I capture are not stolen but borrowed from life. When I find beauty, poetry or meaning in a specific moment, I try to capture it and give it back to the world in a new form.
Istanbul is one of the most inspirational cities in the world. Simply by going out of your house and wandering the streets, you can smell the centuries of heritage accumulated since Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman times. Even daily life has its own charms in Istanbul. Watching the ferries leaving and arriving, carrying crowds of people, the smoke they leave behind, seagulls flying around them is a beautiful composition on its own, created again and again everyday. Living in such an inspirational city, recording daily life and the moments I witness is a sheer joy for me."

"This summer my daughter and I traveled down the West Coast from Northern Oregon to Southern California. Driving slowly along scenic Highways 101 and 1, I captured Hipsta images at every stop. An incredible two week adventure, we stayed everywhere from a posh hotel in San Francisco, to a rather primitive campsite along the ocean in Caspar. We visited so many beautiful places, it was difficult to choose just a handful of photos to represent our trip. Northern California in particular stood out for me as a visual wonder - many of the images included in this portfolio are from Highway 1 where it begins in Northern California, down to Big Sur, just south of San Francisco."

"Travelling is a delight: we put the key under the door, and leave ourselves inside. We agree to meet up with ourselves abroad. We look at the streets, the sky and the houses. We look at our own reflection in shop windows, amazed to be where we are - amazed at being somewhere else. We have changed. We are ourselves as new and unfamiliar as what we are seeing."

"I live near the beach so I have the sea inside me since my childhood. I love water and everything around it, and under it. I think the Hipstamatic was made for the sun and the beach, especially in a colorful place like México. It's almost always sunny and bright where I live, and hot, so people very often go to the beach. I always try to capture the essence of human life, or at least the way it should be: no worries, happiness everywhere, enjoying life with a smile on our faces. Hipstamatic is a great tool for capturing all this light and these colors. It's like an explosion of pure joy."

"I love my city. Boston isn't a particularly large city but it's cozy, full of treasures, beauty and grit. I see her from high and low, from near and far, and I appreciate her beauty as often as I can. Whether its architecture, it's seasons, it's citizens, it's quirks or what ever you can think of, the town sinks its hooks into you. I've thought about leaving her a few times in my life but really, there's no escape, skuzz."

"I like the human element of pictures, and where possible I always try to include a human element in my photographs. I enjoy photographing my city, and take part in Instameets, promoted by InstagramersRio. I end up getting to know my city more and learning to photograph it very well. I also like taking photographs of my friends. Despite the fact Rio de Janeiro is a tropical place and very hot, 43º in summer, I love shooting with the Combo Wonder + Blanko Freedom13 because it leaves a melancholy air, the colors or absence of them, always reminds me of autumn weather."

"The entire protest started because of the government's decision to develop on the historical Gezi Park which is located in the very centre of Istanbul, Taksim Square. Most of the crowd consisted of the leftwing political supporters but we know that there were more than 800 different groups (different backgrounds, ideologies and religions) as well. The movement to protect Gezi Park is one of the most popular and high profile protests in the world. There are still huge number of people in Gezi Park trying to resist and protect their democratic rights.

Unfortunately last night (June 11th, 2013) all the protesters in Taksim square and Gezi Park faced the toughest of police interventions. My photographs show the battle of the Turkish people in the face of a violent state reaction."

‘Oriented and Disoriented in the Middle East’ by Yiorgos Kordakis

"Last year I was asked by the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography in Greece to participate in their Middle Eastern Project titled 'Oriented and Disoriented in the Middle East'. I was invited to join a team of Art Photographers who were to visit different Middle Eastern Countries. I was chosen to travel to Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The 'photographic Missions' had to take place in the month of September, a time of the year especially challenging for photographers as temperatures in this part of the world do reach extremes.

I was seeking for an 'alternative' way of expressing myself for this particular project. I didn't have a lot of time to spend in these countries (in which I have never been before), and the idea of visiting with an iphone instead of my standard cameras (SLRS & 4X5) became more compelling by the day. I finally suggested to the Museum's director my idea (by then already a decision), who initially found it a very bad one, but when I showed him my Hipstamatic portfolio, he changed his mind and gave me the go-ahead.

Shooting with my iPhone and Hipstamatic, proved to be a brilliant way of doing so. I decided to use a couple of film and lens combinations for each country, those that would capture the 'color and feeling' in the best possible way. Of course I played around with other combinations all the time but it was creatively very interesting to experiment, eventually settling with those combinations that worked better for each location."

‘They were once Fast & Furious’ by Jessy Menchaca

Name: Jessy Menchaca

Hometown: Del Rio, Texas

Resides: Odessa, Texas

Profession: Retail Sales Consultant
Hobbies: Photography, Shopping

Hipstographer since: September of 2010

Year of Birth: 1980

Favorite combo:  Foxy  +  Blanko
Favorite Lens:  John S
Favorite Film:  Blanko
Favorite Flash:  Pop Rox

"I've been using Hipstamatic since the day I discovered it back in September of 2010. It was during a coffee break and the first thing I photographed was the shadow of my high heels. One shot was all it took. I was in it forever. Since then, I've challenged myself to take at least one shot a day, which I've successfully done, and then there's also been glorious vacation days where I've taken hundreds of shots in a single day.

I started the 'They were once Fast & Furious' series in order to keep up with the daily shot self challenge. Old vehicles are pretty simple to find around Odessa, and I have a thing for their old, round, beautiful headlights. Shooting them with Hisptamatic just seems right to me."
