"Before going abroad, I always try to select a general theme for my photos and to limit myself to a maximum of 2 or 3 combos. For Hong Kong, I knew that I was going to a modern megalopolis but I wanted to go against the flow and try to find the vestiges of ancient China, the China of ancestral traditions. I therefore chose Robusta, a film with a vintage look and Mabel, a lens that I fell in love with after seeing the photos of Christine Mignon and Lee Atwell (Combo #114 and #115). This particular combination of film and lens allowed me to impart the retro look I was going for to my photos, reminiscent of the post-war photos taken in Asia, yellowed by the passing of time, with just a few touches of colour and without too much contrast."
