"The moment the Estrada film came out, I was a big fan of it, but I couldn't seem to find the right lens to go with it, until I attached the Sergio lens. I like the way the edge blurring of Sergio interacts with the border effects of Estrada. Driving up and down Interstate 15 in California, I decided to put this combo in drive. This stretch of road from Baker, CA. all the way up and through to Mesquite, AZ. is a photographic haven if you love abandoned buildings, old signs, and all manner of detritus. The car we were in kept having transmission problems, so we would have to stop every once in a while to reset it. It was during these stops that I would get out, and like a kid in a candy store, start snapping pics of anything that caught my eye.
Perhaps these photos may give you a sense of place, of a dislocated moment, where things once used, now abandoned, exist for time to paint its patina for the unsuspecting traveler with a camera to discover their beauty. When I showed these shots to my wife she said they had a retro dreaminess to them, and I thought… 'Cool'."
