"Over Easter, I spent 3 days in Puglia in southern Italy and one of these days I went to visit the city of Bari. The old town was completely built with white limestone and since it was also Good Friday, I happened to be there during the procession of the Mysteries.
I decided to use the Florence/DC combo because I like the pink effect on the limestone and, since the atmosphere was rather solemn on this day of mourning, I also wanted to increase the dark colors, with the use of the Jolly Rainbo 2x flash.
The people of the South are very much devoted to their religious traditions and while I was in the narrow streets of the old town photographing the procession, I also immersed myself in their daily life: children playing ball in the ruins of an ancient church, women hanging their laundry on balconies,… This combo allowed me to enhance the colors of the alleys in the old town of Bari."
