"I enjoy playing around with foregrounds and backgrounds while composing images with Hipstamatic, creating juxtapositions between form, colour and sharpness. This wire fence around a local concrete water tank is a subject I've shot before, as I seem to be drawn to the discolourations in the concrete and the distorted shadows it produces, as the sun move across the sky. Testing the combination of Robusta and Yoona I came across this subject again, this time my interest was drawn by the shadow of a telegraph pole behind the imposing barbed wire.
The resulting image appealed to me due to the dramatic contrast between the sharp barbed wire in the foreground and the soft background shadow play, and the almost monochromatic colour range. The image has evoked a dramatic response from viewers, drawing comments about stifled freedom, violence and censorship."
