"My favorite street snaps happen when a combination of elements briefly come together to create a magical moment. The vast majority of my images are made while I am walking, but in the case of this photo from Charlotte, North Carolina, I stood on an elevated plaza to accentuate the pattern of mottled light. After give minutes of playing with the shapes and patterns, along came a man in a hat that mimicked the shadow shapes. The second that I shot this picture, I moved on, knowing that it wasn't going to get any better."
