"Kurt Westergaard, illustrator and death-defier"

"Kurt Westergaard made an illustration, in 2005, of the prophet Muhhamad wearing a turban shaped like a bomb. While I was on holiday in Denmark, I was invited for dinner at a friend’s place, where Mr. Westergaard and his wife also happened to be. We talked as we had drinks. He’s a very likeable character and is very aware of his situation, while remaining detached and ironic about it. As he has a fatwa hanging over his head, he is under 24hr. police protection. Whether at home or in public, Kurt is always accompanied by 3 Danish secret service body guards. They are armed, wear bulletproof vests and the entire entourage gets around in 2 huge 4X4 armoured vehicles."
