"The Lifeguard is on holiday. When I saw this chair, I immediately thought someone should be sitting there! Where indeed was the lifeguard, I wondered. The absent occupant could just as well have been a tennis umpire. However, as I grew up on the shores of the Meuse, I remembered the regattas and the lifeguard who was always perched aloft in just such a chair, and thought of him straight away. This new Hipsta combo, with blur, black and white, like daguerreotypes, captures the nostalgia of those hazy days of summer, the empty chair and the absent presence of the lifeguard. Basically, this is my "back to the future shot", a reminder of my teenage years on the shores of the Meuse."
