‘The State of the Union is… Hipsta’ by Susan Sanders, Lori Hillsberg, Julie Descalopoulis & Rhonda Baumgartner
"Four iPhone-carrying, Hipstamatic-shooting ladies: Susan Sanders from Washington, D.C., Lori Hillsberg from NYC, Julie (Jools) Descalopoulis from California, and Rhonda Baumgartner from Northern Virginia, met on an April weekend in the nation’s capital city to shoot museums, memorials, monuments and much more.
Walking thousands of steps over two days, we shot the Renwick Gallery’s amazing 'Wonder' exhibit, modern art at the Hirshhorn Museum, traditional art and sculpture at the National Gallery of Art, the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. We paid tribute to Lincoln, MLK, the soldiers who fought in Korea and World War II. Along the way, we took in the White House, Lafayette Park, the Washington Monument and DC’s new City Center, its two blocks full of cherry blossom lanterns. We also captured special moments in the lives of the people and the city, including a wedding in historic St. Patrick’s, in the city’s old downtown, as the bride and groom left the church surrounded by joyous friends and family.
New friendships were forged and old ones renewed. All in all, a wonderful two days of Hipsta photography and fellowship in an amazing city."
