"Laos is a country that is roughly the same size as Britain but with a population of only 6 million, as apposed to 75 million. You really get as sence of isolation. Everywhere I went, city and countryside, I always came across disused childrens Ferris Wheels which to me evokes images of those in Chernobyl.
The end of January, early February is very hot and dry and so I wanted a combination that would really show this. One of the problems with shooting in this 'perfect blue sky' lighting is the difference between the light of the sky and the dark shadows from the sun. I actually decided to keep using a favourite lens of mine, the G2 which appears to boost the contrast a little but this worked well when combined with the Irom 2000 film with its warm tones."
