"I moved to Kuala Lumpur (KL) a year ago for work. My family is back in Australia so I have quite a bit of time on the weekends to wander the streets and get to know this laid back small Big City. Three cultures, Malay, Indian and Chinese, give the city a unique ambiance that is exemplified by an amazing cuisine, tolerant religious practices and a less frenetic feel than Bangkok to the north and Jakarta just across the strait. The twin Petronas Towers that dominate the skyline are genuinely awesome buildings and were my first local subject. But for someone who has been photographing for 40 years there are plenty of other delights all over the city. I especially like to wander through bazaars and sip a beer or tea in sidewalk shops. Most of these pictures were taken on afternoon rambles around Chinatown, Little India and Lebuh Ampang. On the outskirts of town are the Batu Caves which are a significant Hindu pilgrimage site not only for Malaysians but for Hindus from other parts of the world. It is a source of endless photographic inspiration. Though I grew up with a SLR I rarely use one since I became Hipstamatized. I simply love the richness and depth of the App and as many other photographers have attested, it has rejuvenated my personal vision and practice."
