"From the Slovenian indigenous domestic animal breeds, the Kranjska čebela (pronounced: kranska chebela) - the Carniolan honey bee - is certainly the most geographically widespread, because it is bred on all five continents. Originally, the species could be found throughout Slovenia, including Carinthia and, to the East, all the way to Romania and Bulgaria.
The Carniolan honey bee is highly appreciated among beekeepers, as it is known for zealous gathering and therefore produces huge amounts of honey. It is not aggressive, so it is easier to work with than many other breeds. Beekeeping with this species is also possible near the home and in residential areas, where other breeds can cause inconvenience.
This photo of a beehive was published in Hipstamatic Slovenia’s challenge #90: Horinzontal."
