"Plum Island is an eleven mile long barrier island about an hour north of Boston, most of the area managed as the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. On this crystal clear early spring Sunday only the southernmost beach of the island was open to the public to protect nesting sites for the federally threatened piping plover birds. With the tide out, my wife and I were greeted by a seascape of white sands, tidal pools and sand dunes. The Ballard lens and film combination seemed right at home in the bright sun and sea setting. "
