"The photo of a Las Vegas Elvis impersonator is actually one of my favourite photos I have shot in a long time. I was with my family in Las Vegas, and while heading out of town to drive to the Grand Canyon we thought we'd stop by the iconic sign for a family photo - with as it turns out, a bus load of tourists who arrived at the same time. Everyone waited in line to have their photo taken in front of the sign, and I set up a DSLR on a tripod to rapidly fire off a bunch of photos on a timer. I noticed the faux-Elvis just standing around, everybody was ignoring him. So I got him to join my family for a quick burst at the sign, and got out of the way of all of those patiently waiting in line for their turn.
I took Elvis off to the side and shot few photos of him with my kids, all of them wearing Gold Elvis glasses and fake lamb-chop sideburns. Awesome stuff. Once we did that, I asked Elvis if I could grab just one more of just him and the sign and grabbed my iPhone to shoot it. I had just gotten into using Oggl at the time as it was newly-released so I shot a few frames as Elvis struck the iconic pose.
I have to say he was the nicest guy in the world, we had a chat about the time he visited Toronto, and it was so hot there - they were in the middle of a heat wave and it was in the very high 30s Celsius. I felt badly for him that he was all dressed up and that bus load of tourists just didn't get it and were pretty much ignoring him. On the other hand, I got one of my favourite photos ever."
