São Paulo HipstaPak
Each time a new pak is launched, it is an event. This time Hipstamatic is taking us to South America, specifically to São Paulo, Brazil's largest city and cultural capital.
The São Paulo pak offers a new lens (Madalena) and a new film (Robusta).
Madalena
Vila Madalena is a lively São Paulo neighbourhood replete with bars, restaurants, book shops and interior design stores. Students flock to this neighbourhood, and its night life will enthral you.
I carried out a few quick tests. The lens seems to be a "dominator". Its own characteristics overshadow those of the film you are using. It seems to dull the image, much like Tejas. Further tests are required. However it is already apparent that this lens will not give you vibrant colours that pop.
Robusta
The film has a peculiar frame, in two parts. The outer part is off-white and crisp enough, but corrosion appears on the inner edges, less so than with the TinType SnapPak films, but the effect is nevertheless interesting. I would say this film would be a good addition to an already comprehensive collection. Unlike its lens Madalena, Robusta is not a "dominator", and gives free rein to whatever lens you may choose.
A case or a flash would have been nice surprises, but beggars can't be choosers. We have more than enough to keep ourselves busy in the weeks to come, as this new pak exponentially increases the number of possible combinations. Indeed we now have not 16,800, but 17,980 combos: 29 lenses, 31 films, 10 flashes and 2 flash setting options. It's $.99/0,89€ in Hipstamatic classic and part of the subscription in Oggl.
I can hardly wait to see the beautiful images you will produce and to feature the best of them on the site, especially in our Combo section. Let me remind you that I'm looking for 9, 12 or 15 photos and descriptive texts for this combo. On your marks, get set, go! Who will show the most originality?
