Four years of Hipstography

By on December 29, 2016

When I first launched Hipstography, on December 29th 2012, I couldn’t possibly have known it would end up becoming this vast databank. Hipstography, as it stands today, is home to over 5GB of pictures, or more than 20.000 photographs made with no fewer than 500 combos, 270 portfolios and other series. The largest picture collection in the world, taken with the best photo application: Hipstamatic.

I can say that, for myself at least, my enthusiasm for this camera hasn’t changed over the past 4 years and I am still blown away, on a daily basis, by the pictures I publish. Hipstamatic is unique, addictive, influential, inspirational, also often copied but never ever equaled. A huge thank you to the team for the joy they bring us every day.  And a special thank you goes out to Mario Estrada, just because I bug him on a weekly basis for information to pass on to you.

What distinguishes Hipstamatic from all the other apps though, is You! What a community of impassioned people, who despite the miles of separation, despite the cultural, social and generational disparities, finding themselves connected by a little yellow button. I say it every year, and I’ll say it again, Hipstography would not be what it is today, without this community of photographers. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who allows me to publish their pictures, and thanks to the readers too!

Our fourth year of existence has been brimming with publications, among them, a visit to the city of lights with the exhibition "Paris is always a good idea" and three showcases dedicated to three creative virtuosos: Berlewen Jolixor, Lee Atwell and Florian Bilges. And… what can we say about 365 Photos of the Day, 80 combos and 40 portfolios published in 12 months?

We also launched our very own Hipstography collection, with two to date: The Lush Collection, which saw the light of day in April 2016 and The Candy Collection, just out since last week. We’re working on more, as we speak, one of which will be a black-and-white little number; if you want to participate in the creation of this project, do send us a message on the contact page.

2016 has been a rich, passionate and creative year, but that said, some of your series were truly unique, and those will be receiving the highest honors during the Hipstography Awards! The Awards take off next week with the first phase: the jury votes. The jury members will be selecting their favorites, after which you will be asked to add your votes, which will then lead to the allocation of about 20 statuettes, at the beginning of February, during the Grand Ceremony.

So, once again, thank you everybody for your support!
Merry Matic and Hipsta New Year
