Three years Hipstography

By on December 29, 2015

Hipstography first saw the light of day on December 29th, 2012, and is, therefore, celebrating its third anniversary today. First of all, I want to thank everyone for the sustained support; the site wouldn’t be what it has become today without you, your pictures, portfolios and series– each one more beautiful and creative than the last. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This anniversary comes a few days before the New Year, making it the perfect opportunity to reminisce on the year gone by. In a word, it was "busy"…

The first big event in 2015 was "Click. Boom. Amazing!", the first "Live" Hipstography exhibition which ran for over three months at the prestigious Sofitel Brussels Europe. More than 70 photos, printed on a variety of different supports, were presented to the public in Brussels, and it also gave rise to the occasion to organize a great HipstaMeet during the vernissage. Let me remind you that I still have all of these prints at my home and am truly very keen on organizing another exhibition in another country. So with that said, who’s ready to take the plunge with me?

The most poignant event of 2015, however, was most certainly the launch of the 300-version of Hipstamatic. This update presented the opportunity for a complete overhaul of the application. With a boost in power like nobody could have ever imagined, there are now infinite possibilities, allowing the user’s creativity absolute freedom. The release of the 300-version, though, meant only one thing for Hipstography: the "tutorials". You can find them in this section of the site.

This kind of development was risky business for Hipstamatic; but despite the initial bugs, it turned out to be absolutely fabulous. There is no doubt about it: Hipstamatic remains the most imaginative and striking of all photography apps. The vast number of pictures published on Hipstography is proof of that…

You have to admit that 2015 saw an amazing array of stunning series and pictures! Over 110 combos, 40 portfolios, 365 photos of the day, several exhibitions like Namaste India or HipstaMeet Vegas and more… As of the beginning of January, all of these will be competing in the long-awaited rendezvous of the year: the annual Hipstography Awards! The first nominees will be announced around the 20th of January, at which point the voting will begin. May the best win!

To round off the year in style, Hipstography had the immense pleasure of launching its first collection of combos, The Organic Collection. It was created as a result of the collaboration between a number of Hipstographers, among them Polina Sarri and Sebastian Oskar Kroll. The Organic Collection presents three combos that we tried to make as subtle as possible, inspired by the tones of nature. We certainly hope that you like and use Ag47, Kr36 and Ho67; you can find them here, and please do tag your pictures with the name of the combo you used.

Before I bring this little retrospective to a close, let’s just remind ourselves that 2015 also brought us 12 new HipstaPaks and a few additional surprise-Paks; as well the Hipstamatic catalogue has grown with a number of remarkable elements like the Brussels HipstaPak. Let's just say that, for obvious reasons, I’m quite partial to it, as it remains one of the best "presents" I have ever been given.

All in all, it was quite a year! Sumptuous, energized, inspired, passionate and impassioned. I’d hereby also like to thank that tiny team that has managed to transform our daily life into something a bit more wonderful with a simple little application that has become a major reference point in the photography world. Thank you, Lucas Buick, Ryan Dorshorst, Aravind Kaimal and Mario Estrada.

Merry Matic & Hipsta New Year!
